Conto Termico 3.0: up to 65% as a direct grant

The Conto Termico is an Italian public incentive: anyone replacing an existing heating system with a certified wood-burning stove can receive a direct grant from the GSE — not a tax deduction spread over ten years, but a bank transfer. This page explains who qualifies, how much is available and what the appliance must comply with.

What it is

A grant, not a tax break

The Conto Termico is the scheme through which the Italian state, via the GSE, funds energy-efficiency work and renewable heat. Version 3.0 has been in force since 25 December 2025 and has no fixed end date.

The key difference from Italy's building bonuses is that the money arrives by bank transfer, usually within a few months of approval, and does not depend on how much income tax you pay.

Who qualifies

Private individuals, apartment blocks, businesses and public bodies. The decisive condition is that the work must replace an existing heating system.

Technical requirements

5-star environmental class under Ministerial Decree 186/2017, useful thermal efficiency above 85%, compliance with emission limits, and the manufacturer's Declaration of Conformity.

Our stoves

Every Bottega del Fuoco stove is 5-star certified with a declared efficiency of 85.4%, and the Declaration of Conformity is already available for each model.

How it works

The steps, in order

1. The existing system is checked

There must already be a heating system in place, to be replaced. Replacing an old wood-burning appliance with a new one of the same fuel also qualifies.

2. The appliance is chosen

It must be 5-star rated, with efficiency above 85% and a Declaration of Conformity. Always ask for that document before you sign — from us as from anyone else.

3. It is installed, and everything is kept

Invoices, bank transfers, the installer's declaration of conformity, the technical data sheet and the environmental certificate: these are the papers the GSE may ask for.

4. The application goes to the GSE

Through the portal of the GSE — the Italian state energy agency that pays the grant — within the deadlines set by the decree. The customer, an appointed technician or an intermediary may file it.

5. The money is transferred

Once the application is accepted, the grant is paid straight into the bank account. Nothing to recover through a tax return, no ten-year wait.

And if the old stove can no longer be used?

In Emilia-Romagna, from October to March, the municipalities of the Po plain forbid the use of appliances rated up to 3 stars where the home has another source of heating. That is exactly the case the grant is designed for.
