The ceramic stove

What it is, how it works, how it differs

Are Bottega del Fuoco stoves certified?

Yes. All our stoves are certified 5-star under the UNI EN 16510-2-1:2023 standard, the highest emission class available. Minimum emissions, high efficiency and compliance for years to come.

What is an accumulation ceramic stove for?

Accumulation stoves store heat in their refractory walls and release it gradually for hours after the fire goes out. Constant, even warmth with just a few loads a day, over 85% efficiency and running costs far below gas and diesel.

Do you only make stoves?

No. Besides heating stoves, we produce bespoke ceramics for furniture, decorative pieces and industrial components. Over fifty years of slip-casting experience make us a qualified supplier to international companies.

What's the difference between a ceramic wood stove and a traditional cast-iron or steel one?

Cast-iron or steel stoves heat up fast but lose warmth as soon as the fire goes out. Our ceramic wood stoves work differently: the refractory mass stores heat and releases it slowly for hours, giving a more even result with fewer loads of wood per day. They're also handcrafted pieces, customisable in colour and finish — not a mass-produced appliance. If you're deciding which stove to buy, come see them in person at our showroom or request a free quote.

Does it need electricity?

No. Our majolica stoves have no electrical parts: no board, no fans, no motor. They are not plugged in and they keep heating even during a power cut — unlike a pellet stove, which stops without power.

How is it different from a steel or cast-iron stove?

A steel stove heats quickly and cools just as quickly: when the fire goes out, the heat goes with it. Majolica is a storage material — it takes the heat in while the wood burns and gives it back for hours afterwards, gently, by radiation rather than by blowing hot air. It also means no fan, so no noise and no electricity.

What it costs

Price, installation, firewood and maintenance

How much does a Bottega del Fuoco stove cost?

There is no fixed price list, and that isn't an evasion: every stove is made by hand to measure, and the price depends on the line, the size, the colours and the finishes you choose — decoration included. Two stoves from the same line can cost different amounts because they are not the same stove.

The simplest way to get a real figure is to tell us what you have in mind: request a quote — free, no obligation, a few minutes. Or come to the showroom and we will look at the options together.

How much does it cost to heat a home with a wood stove compared to gas?

Roughly around €0.05 per kWh with wood, compared to €0.10-0.14 with gas or LPG: savings that can exceed 55-70% depending on local prices. The actual saving depends on how many kWh your home consumes, i.e. floor area, insulation and local climate: for an estimate on your specific case, feel free to write to us.

How much does it cost to install a wood stove?

It depends on your starting situation: if your home already has a compliant flue, costs are lower; otherwise you'll need to budget for building one. We handle the design and craftsmanship of the stove itself; for installation, which requires qualified technicians, we're in touch with qualified external installers who can give you an accurate quote based on your specific case.

What does ongoing maintenance cost?

Very little: our stoves have no electronic components to service. All you need is periodic ash cleaning, an annual flue check (a legal requirement), and a soft cloth for the ceramic — no service contracts, no parts that need regular replacement.

Incentives and tax relief

Conto Termico, tax deduction, who qualifies

Is the Conto Termico a tax deduction?

No. A tax deduction is recovered over ten years through your income tax return. The Conto Termico is a direct grant paid by the GSE by bank transfer, usually within a few months of the application being accepted.

Who can apply?

Private individuals, apartment blocks, businesses and public bodies. The requirement that rules most people out is not who you are but what you do: the incentive covers the replacement of an existing heating system, not a first installation.

How much can I get?

Up to 65% of eligible expenditure. For biomass appliances up to 35 kW — the class all our stoves belong to — the maximum incentive is €5,000. The actual amount depends on the appliance's output and on the climate zone of the property.

What must the stove comply with?

5-star environmental certification under Italian Ministerial Decree 186/2017, useful thermal efficiency above 85%, compliance with emission limits, and a Conto Termico Declaration of Conformity issued by the manufacturer. All our stoves meet these requirements, and the Declaration of Conformity is already available for every model.

Can I combine the Conto Termico with the tax deduction?

As a rule, no: for the same job you choose one measure or the other. It is worth doing the sum both ways before deciding, because which one pays better depends on whether you are replacing an existing system and on how much tax you actually have to offset.

Who files the application with the GSE?

The application is filed on the GSE portal within the deadlines set by the decree. The customer can do it, or an appointed technician, or an intermediary. If you would rather not deal with it, say so when we quote: we will tell you how to proceed and which documents are needed.

Can my old stove still be used?

It depends on its emission class and on the municipality. In Emilia-Romagna, from 1 October to 31 March, in the municipalities of the eastern plain, the western plain and the Bologna conurbation, it is forbidden to use open fireplaces and wood or pellet stoves rated up to and including 3 stars, where the property has an alternative heating system. The class is declared by the manufacturer in the appliance booklet or in the certificate.

What are the Italian tax deduction rates in 2026?

For building renovation work the deduction is 50% on a main home and 36% on second homes and other residential properties, with a spending cap of €96,000 per property unit. It is recovered in ten equal annual instalments through the income tax return.

Do the rates change in 2027?

Yes. Unless extended, from 2027 the rates fall to 36% for a main home and 30% for other properties.

Conto Termico or tax deduction — which is better?

If you are replacing an existing heating system and want the money quickly, the Conto Termico is usually better: it is paid by bank transfer within months and does not depend on your tax liability. If this is a first installation, or you prefer the tax route, the deduction remains. The two cannot be combined for the same work.

What can be installed in Emilia-Romagna?

Since 6 February 2024, across the whole region, new biomass heat generators below the 5-star class for particulate and OGC emissions may not be installed. From 1 October to 31 March, in the plain municipalities, appliances up to and including 3 stars may not be used where an alternative heating system is present.

Can they be combined?

No — not for the same expense. You choose one measure or the other. What you can do is use one for the stove and the other for a different piece of work, provided the costs are kept clearly separate in the invoices.

What do I need to qualify for the tax deduction?

Invoices made out to whoever will claim the deduction, payment by bonifico parlante — a bank transfer that states the reason, the law being invoked, the payer's tax code and the recipient's VAT number — and the technical documentation for the appliance. Keep everything: the deduction is spread over ten annual instalments and can be checked at any point along the way.

What incentives and tax deductions can I get?

Conto Termico 3.0 (GSE): up to 65% as a non-repayable grant on the cost of the stove and installation. This is not a tax deduction: the grant is paid directly by the GSE after the work is completed. Direct access for private homeowners through an ESCO; single payment if the grant is ≤ €15,000.

IRPEF tax deduction: 50% on a main home and 36% on other properties, spread over 10 annual instalments, requiring a specified bank transfer.

Who can apply: private homeowners (primary and secondary residences), businesses, condominiums, public bodies and renewable energy communities.

Documents required: invoices and payment receipts, intervention form, declaration of conformity (D.D.C.), energy diagnosis and APE before/after if required by the type of work, technical documentation compliant with Annex I of D.M. 07/08/2025.

Not cumulative with other state incentives on the same costs (Ecobonus, Renovation Bonus).

In force since 25/12/2025, with no expiry date. We'll guide you through the entire process from start to finish.

Can I access tax incentives?

Yes: our stoves, 5-star certified with 85.4% efficiency (above the 85% threshold), qualify for the Conto Termico 3.0 (GSE): up to 65% as a non-repayable grant, paid directly after the work is completed. Direct access for private homeowners through an ESCO; single payment if ≤ €15,000. Alternatively, IRPEF tax deduction: 50% on a main home, 36% on other properties, spread over 10 annual instalments. Documents: invoices, intervention form, declaration of conformity (D.D.C.), APE if required. Not cumulative with Ecobonus/Renovation Bonus on the same costs. Use and maintenance

The wood, the cleaning, what it asks day to day

What can break, and are spare parts available?

The hardest-working part is the fire door, and it is the one we make in-house in stainless steel: the spare is still available in twenty years, with no outside supplier involved. The majolica can be replaced tile by tile. With no electronics, there is nothing to become obsolete or go out of production.

Is it complicated to use and maintain?

No, and that is the main reason many people go back to wood. You load it and light it: no menu, no mode to set, no app. Upkeep is the traditional kind — cleaning the glass and the ash, and the chimney sweep for the flue at the intervals the law sets. There is no annual service contract for the electronics, because there are no electronics.

Does burning wood pollute too much?

Our stoves comply with the UNI EN 16510-2-1:2023 standard, with much lower emissions than old open fireplaces. The CO₂ released by combustion is also part of the natural carbon cycle.

Do I need to cut or stack large amounts of wood?

No: a few cubic metres a year are enough for an average home, stored in a dry, ventilated place. No tank to fill, no gas bottle to change, no supply contract to manage.

Is it complicated to use every day?

With a well-designed firebox like ours, four loads a day are enough — more on the coldest days. The ceramic does the rest, storing the heat and releasing it gradually for hours.

Is maintenance complicated?

No: routine maintenance is all done comfortably through the firebox door, without dismantling anything. This is possible because every stove is built from two distinct, separable bodies — the outer cladding, in ceramic or majolica, and the combustion chamber it houses inside — designed specifically to make installation easier too. In the rare case a major service is needed, the combustion chamber can be fully removed and dismantled.

How long does a ceramic stove last?

The refractory ceramic walls have no mechanical or electronic parts subject to wear, unlike a pellet stove. With normal routine maintenance, a Bottega del Fuoco stove is built to serve a home for many years — we've been working ceramic for stoves since 1973.

Is wood messy and demanding?

Less than you might think, because these are heat-storage stoves: a few loads a day are enough, rather than a fire to feed constantly. Routine maintenance is all done through the fire door, without dismantling anything.

Seeing it and ordering

Showroom, lead times, getting to a quote

Where is the showroom, and can I buy a stove there?

Our showroom — Bottega del Fuoco's direct sales point — is at Via Don G. Dossetti 7, 42021 Bibbiano Corniano (RE), just minutes from Reggio Emilia. You can touch the ceramics in person, compare lines and choose colours before buying. Hours: Monday–Friday 8:00am–12:00pm and 2:00pm–6:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00am–12:00pm and 4:00pm–6:00pm, by appointment. Book your visit by emailing info@bottegadelfuoco.it or calling the number on the site.

Can I see them before deciding?

Yes, and we always recommend it. The showroom is in Bibbiano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, and visits can be booked from the website or by phone. There you see the stoves in the flesh and handle the majolica piece by piece: when it comes to choosing a colour, half an hour in the showroom is worth more than ten photographs.

The QBO pouf

The refractory ceramic seat — not a stove

What is a refractory ceramic pouf?

It's a low seat made of refractory ceramic, the same material we use to clad our wood stoves. Unlike an upholstered pouf it isn't affected by heat, doesn't stain and wipes clean with a damp cloth. QBO measures 44 × 44 × 44 cm and weighs 45 kg: use it as a seat or as a low side table next to the stove.

Can it go next to a lit stove?

Yes. Refractory ceramic is made to sit in contact with the heat of a fire: it's the material that, in our stoves, stores heat and releases it slowly. QBO can stand beside the stove without warping or being damaged.

Can I match it to the colours of my stove?

Yes. QBO comes in the same 18 colours as the collection — 15 gloss and 3 speckled matte — and in five versions, from a cube in a single colour up to five different tones across its faces. You can match your stove exactly, or go for contrast.

Where can I see it, and what does it cost?

You can see and touch it at our showroom in Via Don G. Dossetti 7, Bibbiano Corniano (Reggio Emilia, Italy). The price depends on how many colours you choose: request a quote and we'll come back with the exact figure for the combination you have in mind.
